Program Goals

My goal upon completion of the Communication and Information Technologies (ICT) graduate degree is to improve my computer skill and knowledge scale, then parctice them after I back to China. Finally, create my own company and use ICT to improve my company. To this point, I will try learn more skill and theory in this process, especially in management aspect.

Definition of ICT

The World Bank defines ICT as, "hardware, software, networks, and media for

the collection, storage, processing, transmission and presentation of information

(voice, data, text, images), as well as related services.”

Program reflection

The concept of the modern corporation management is described as having originated when Taylorism was introduced by Frederick W. Taylor (1856- 1915). Based on the observation in the manufacture industry, Frederick W. Taylor was convinced that worker is one of the key factors to increase production efficiency for corporation management and well planned output per unit is necessary to improve the corporation management. Before the nineteen century, it is commonly believed that cooperation of human resource and machine is the best way to improve the productivity. However, after the information and communication technology was found, the statute of human resource in the corporation management strategy was replaced by advanced technology.

Information and communication technology or information and communications technology, usually abbreviated as ICT, is usually considered irrelevant to the traditional industry. In reality, however, a large number of corporations successfully purchased and outfitted transportation, built and operated offices and warehouses, manufactured trade goods for use abroad, maintained trading posts and production facilities, procured goods for import, and sold those goods both at home and in other countries with the help of information and communication technology. The corporations, which applied information and communication technology, did differ strikingly from the corporations those did not in many respects. They depended heavily on the utilization of information and communication technology and thus characteristically acted efficiently with lower cost. Those information and communication technology applied corporations not only relied on information exchange to do their job but also collect relevant information about the industry. Therefore most of them turned in ways heretofore undreamed of. Information and communication technology operated in the modern corporation management, grafting an old style system of human resource intensive management onto a new system of advanced technology intensive management.

Despite the influence on the economic development, information and communication technology can positively affect the society from the historical, philosophical, social, psychological, multicultural and political sides. For example, more selective than most teaching methods in that they ordinarily based on teacher’s knowledge, information and communication technology (such as Internet, video session, and digital devices) collects and transmit the massage of new knowledge to the targeted people.

On the other side, the high profit of corporations and impressive influence on various aspects, which are resulted from the well application of information and communication technology in the modern society, may reflect not the cases that fail to apply for the advanced technology but rather the necessary to secure the use of information and communication technology. In addition, determining the potential risks of information and communication technology plan for corporation management before it is used is not difficult, especially when the whole information and communication system is built from one byte to another byte, because, unlike other physical method, bug of local information and communication system could be controlled by engineers.
